Judicial Circuit Assessment Committee Public Hearing
The Judicial Circuit Assessment Committee (JCAC) will hold its second public hearing at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the George Edgecomb Courthouse, 800 E Twiggs St., Tampa, FL 33602. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments from the legal community and the public regarding whether there is a need to consolidate Florida’s judicial circuits.
Two ways the JCAC is receiving input regarding court consolidation is through online surveys and public hearings. The online surveys produced nearly 7,000 responses for the committee to examine. The public hearings are a way to collect narrative input from people interested in this issue. The first public hearing in Orlando was well attended and provided the committee with a wealth of input from attendees including Florida legislators, state attorneys, public defenders, private attorneys, and interested members of the public.
Anyone interested in attending the next public hearing on October 13 may do so in person or virtually. Those attending virtually will need to register in advance to receive access via Zoom. Those planning to attend in person do not need to register in advance. However, anyone who would like to speak to the committee during the hearing must complete an appearance form whether planning to speak in person or via Zoom. Details on how to attend (in person or virtually) and how to complete an appearance form to speak are located on the JCAC webpage.
After the public hearing, the committee will meet in executive session, which is not open to the public.
